Holding an Elevator
A simple act of courtesy. Practice the quick, polite exchange involved in holding an elevator door for someone who is approaching.
Situations
Choose from 5 conversations to practice
Initial Hold & First Thanks
You are inside the elevator, see someone approaching, and press the 'door open' button. The person sees you holding it and offers a quick 'thanks'.
Approaching & Requesting Hold
You are rushing towards the elevator, and someone inside notices you and holds the door. You might say 'Can you hold that?' or just 'Thanks!' as you approach.
Acknowledging & Entering
You are the person being waited for. After someone holds the door, you quickly step in, offering a more immediate or slightly more elaborate 'thank you' upon entering.
Holding for Multiple People
You hold the elevator door for one person, and then realize there are more people behind them also coming. You continue to hold the door, and multiple 'thank yous' might be exchanged.
Polite Exchange & Closing Door
After the person or people have entered, you release the button. There might be a final 'You're welcome' or a nod before the doors close and the elevator starts moving.
