Asking for Takeout Boxes

A common request at the end of a restaurant meal. Learn how to politely ask your server for a box or container to take your leftover food home.

  1. Initial Request for BoxesThe customer has finished their meal and wants to take home leftovers. They politely ask the server for a takeout box or container.
  2. Clarifying Box Size/TypeThe server asks about the size or type of box needed (e.g., for liquids, solids, or if multiple items need to be separated). The customer specifies their preference.
  3. Asking for Help PackingThe customer has a large amount of food or difficulty portioning it themselves. They ask the server if they can help pack the food into the containers.
  4. Declining/Confirming Packaged ItemsAfter the food is packed, the server confirms what has been placed in the boxes, or the customer might realize they only want some items packed, not all.
  5. Asking for Utensils/BagsThe customer realizes they might need plastic utensils or a carry bag for the takeout boxes and asks the server for them.
